SWIFT Learning and the SiS Foundation of Canada Launch ‘SAHARA’

Free patent pending Mental Health and Workplace Risk Assessment App and Training Program for Youth and Industry

February 15, 2022 – Calgary, AB – SWIFT Learning and the SiS Foundation of Canada have launched, SAHARA (Safety And Hazard Awareness Risk Assessment), a cloud-based, proactive management technology that combines workplace hazards and a mental health self-assessment to calculate risk level then links to recommended eLearning courses accessible from any device. If an employee’s risk level is high due to their mental health, a link is included to an anonymous crisis response provider for immediate support.

While there are endless studies and polls on mental health, even what the definition of mental health is, the undeniable conclusion is that mental health, in all its guises, has become one of the leading issues facing employers.

The disproportion in youth mental health issues is particularly alarming. The Canadian Institute for Health Information found that between between 2008–2009 and 2018–2019, among youth there was a 61% increase in emergency department visits and a 60% increase in hospitalizations for mental disorders.

Adding to the issue of tackling mental wellness in the workplace is the stigma surrounding it. Another study (Dewa, 2014) found that 38.6 percent of employees would not tell their employer if they were experiencing a mental health problem and a staggering 82 per cent (Miller, 2006) of employees with mental health issues admit it impacts their work while only 53 per cent (Miller, 2006) of those with physical health issues say it impacts their work.

The first of many planned releases of SAHARA 4 SiS Youth has been launched through the SiS Foundation for the service hospitality industry. SiS provides a username and password to download the SAHARA app from the Google and Apple stores. SWIFT Learning is also launching SAHARA 4 Mental Health, a free app that excludes workplace hazards and SAHARA 4 Corporate Wellness.

SAHARA 4 Corporate wellness enables organizations to demonstrate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by taking proactive steps to realize measurable improvements in safety performance, employee mental health, and corporate wellness.

“SAHARA has been developed to easily customize the hazards and mental health assessment for any industry or corporate need. With extensive reporting and data analytic capabilities we can help organizations educate, empower, and proactively mitigate mental health issues and, reduce incidents in the workplace – that is our goal.” stated Kim Adolphe CEO of SWIFT Learning and Chairman of the SiS Foundation.
